How to deal with civil unrest

In situations of violent civil unrest, ensuring the safety of yourself and your team requires careful planning, awareness, and appropriate actions. Here's a general guide to consider:

Stay Informed: Keep up with local news and alerts to be aware of any potential or ongoing unrest in your area. Understanding the context and scale of the unrest can help you make informed decisions.

Safety Planning: Develop a comprehensive safety plan for you and your team. This plan should include emergency contacts, a designated safe location, and routes to avoid areas of unrest.

Avoid Hotspots: Whenever possible, stay away from areas known for protests or violence. Alter your usual routes to avoid these places if they are on your way to work or home.

Secure Your Premises: If your workplace is near a hotspot, take steps to secure the premises with materials near by if possible. This could involve locking doors, closing blinds, and moving valuable items out of direct sight and having self defense in your cache .

Emergency Kits: Prepare emergency kits for yourself and your team members such as a 3 day go-bag. These should include high end first aid supplies, water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries , walkie talkies, knife , compass , pepper spray , lighter , thermal blankets , vitamins , dental hygiene , protein snacks for short / long term situations .

Communication Plan: Have a reliable communication plan in place. This includes establishing a check-in system and ensuring that all team members have access to a communication platform that can be used even if cellular networks are down , walkie talkie , sattelite phones , CB radios , ham radios ETC.

De-escalation Techniques: Train yourself and your team in de-escalation techniques. If confronted by agitators, knowing how to calm tensions can prevent situations from escalating.

Legal Rights: Educate yourself and your team on your legal rights, especially regarding interactions with law enforcement, protestors / rioters peacefully during a State of emergency or martial law .

Psychological Support: Recognize the mental toll that experiencing or being close to violent unrest can have. Provide access to psychological support for team members who need it , you can also supply calming pills such as ashwaganda and CBD oils and rest .

Flexible Work Arrangements: If unrest is anticipated or ongoing, consider implementing flexible work arrangements, such as allowing team members to work from home to avoid traveling to potentially dangerous areas.

Evacuation Plan: If the situation escalates to a point where staying in the area is untenable, have an evacuation plan in place. This plan should include knowing the nearest exits, having a designated meeting point outside of the danger zone, and understanding the safest route out of the area.

It's important to note that these are general guidelines and should be adapted to fit the specific needs and circumstances of your team and location. Always prioritize the safety and well-being of yourself and your team above property or business concerns. In case of immediate danger, contacting local authorities or emergency services is crucial but more than likely they will be busy protecting there family instead , it will be safer within your compound or home bugging in standing your ground.

Always have the right gear and equipment when protecting yourself in a violent civil unrest, armored vehicles, plates , shields and planning accordingly can go a long way when having the right team with communication and discipline at a times notice .

Prep tip - Always have your "minute man" gear ready within your vehicle or workplace if allowed depending on the type of environment and comms charged or spare batterys .
